About TrueCompress

TrueCompress was built with a simple conviction: you shouldn't have to sacrifice your privacy or upload personal images to a remote server just to reduce a file size to 100KB.

100% Client-Side

Every byte of compression runs in your browser using HTML5 Canvas. Your images are never transmitted over the internet or saved to external databases.

Target Size Engine

Need an image under 100KB for an online form or email? Our binary search loop automatically finds the highest possible visual quality under your limit.

No Limits, No Paywalls

Free forever without watermarks, daily quotas, or sign-up requirements. Supported purely by non-intrusive standard web ads.

How It Works Under the Hood

Traditional online image compressors rely on server-side clusters running ImageMagick, libvips, or proprietary APIs. This requires transferring megabytes of raw image data across the web, exposing personal photographs, confidential receipts, and work screenshots to third-party data pipelines.

TrueCompress shifts the computational burden directly to your modern device. Modern mobile and desktop browsers have dedicated hardware acceleration and high-performance canvas APIs capable of processing multi-megapixel images in milliseconds.

  • Binary Search Target Sizing: When you select "Compress to 100KB", TrueCompress executes an iterative binary search across the canvas compression curve to guarantee the final output is strictly under your target while maximizing sharpness.
  • WASM HEIC Decoding: Apple iPhone HEIC and HEIF photos are converted locally via compiled WebAssembly libraries before compression.
  • Smart Format Optimization: For PNG screenshots, TrueCompress offers lossy WebP conversion that preserves alpha transparency while reducing file sizes by up to 90%.
The true* Privacy Network

TrueCompress is proud to be part of the true* network of zero-upload, client-side web utilities designed to replace data-harvesting cloud tools:
